Adapting to Change: Tomasz Chmielewski's Vision for leading in times of transformation
Say hello to our next leader in line - we asked the Director of DU Poland, Tomasz Chmielewski at Clearcode (part of Qinshift) to share a little about himself and his thoughts about change, leadership and being a part of the delivery organization.
What is the best part of being a leader in this transformation?
This large-scale transformation is such an interesting and demanding professional challenge.
Leading through it all, I see it as my duty to be guiding staff and investors through uncertainty, supporting day-to-day tasks, facilitating understanding, and maintaining quality service despite the obvious VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) challenges.
What is your leadership style?
I can adapt my style to the conditions in which I operate. However, I prefer a participative style. I listen a lot, let others have their say and find solutions, even though I have my own views. This is usually a great validation and complement to my ideas. I am very much committed to the empowerment of all colleagues and employees and to the principle of subsidiarity in management, according to which decisions should be taken as close as possible to the place and the people concerned and only if this is not enough should someone one level higher be involved. In crisis or ambiguous situations, I let people orient themselves to me, take the most difficult decisions and try to give them a sense of certainty and stability. My leadership is guided by the Qinshift values of "better minds" and "bigger hearts," balancing intelligence and empathy.
What is your favorite part of working in Delivery?
I like it when both the clients and the people working for them are satisfied. I know that this almost never happens by itself – it is rather the result of systematic work of both our project teams and the managers around them, who support by removing emerging obstacles. I also have a vast of experience outside of delivery, so I get satisfaction when sales processes are well integrated with the work of technical teams so as we win contracts without losing time or resources.
